The Shemka Foundation

The Foundation

Community resilience and sustainable development

The Cameroon organization is led by a board of directors. A program manager and staff run the foundation’s community work. The Quality Healthcare Unit, under a clinic director and clinical staff, carries the clinical side of the same mission.

Mission

Our mission is to enable and support high quality healthcare, social, and educational services to promote and sustain community development in Cameroon.

Vision

Self-sufficient communities, with community-based economies, community education, and community-owned and operated social services.

Where the work sits

Community healthcare

Care that treats the link between a person’s health and the place they live, delivered with the Quality Healthcare Unit and with local health services.

Community education

Practical education for students, families, and adults, shaped with teachers, administrators, and local institutions.

Youth development

Training and guidance that give young people a stake in the work of their own communities.

Local economies

Support that helps people earn a living and keep the skills to sustain what their community has built.

How the Cameroon organization is led

One board sets direction for the Cameroon entity. Day-to-day leadership then divides between the foundation and the clinic.
